ALAMEDA, Calif., September 9, 2006 - The City of Alameda’s Development Services Department, in conjunction with Alameda Power & Telecom, has produced a half-hour documentary on the historic Alameda Theater, entitled “Let’s Go To The Movies: Restoring Alameda’s Movie Palace.” The show, which will air on AP&T’s public access network, Channel 31, will touch upon the theater’s history, as well as plans for its renovation.

“There was such overwhelming response to the guided tours of the theater, that we wanted to find a way to reach a broader audience,” explained Jennifer Ott, Development Manager with the City. Jennifer was responsible for the schedule of building tours which took place in December of last year and continued into January 2006. “Once people have a visual exposure to the building’s architectural significance, they understand the efforts being undertaken to preserve it as a functioning theater.”

The shows will air on Monday and Thursday evenings during two consecutive weeks in September. The show is scheduled to air at 8:30 PM on the Monday’s of September 18 and September 25, and on the Thursday’s of September 21 and September 28. Show times will be publicized through local newspaper ads and on the City of Alameda’s website.

The press is invited to a preview of “Let’s Go To The Movies” on Tuesday, September 12, in the City Council Chambers at 2:00 PM. Running time for the show, without commercials, is approximately 22 minutes. If you are interested in attending the press showing, please contact Rosemary Valeska with the City of Alameda, Development Services Department, at (510)749-5838.
