A PlaceArtist and crasftman Frank Bette lived and worked in Alameda from the 1950's until his death in 1999. A painter, poet and sculpter, his handwritten will named no beneficiary. His legacy instead was to establish "a place where creative people could have meetings, readings, showings and other doings." That place is the Frank Bette Center for the Arts in Alameda.
The Center on TV !Creative Doings is a joint project with Alameda Power & Telecom's Channel 31 to push the Center beyond the borders of 1601 Paru Street and on to Alameda television screens. Each month new themes, topics and artists are spotlighted.
The Mission of the Frank Bette Center for the ArtsThe mission of the Frank Bette Center for the Arts is to fulfill and build upon the Frank Bette legacy of being a place for meetings, readings, showings, and other creative doings. With respect and generosity of spirit we nurture a space of creative energy where fine arts, crafts, literary and musical arts meet and thrive. We build upon this legacy by nurturing the necessary interactions between the creative arts and creative commerce; knowing that each is essential to the other. In this way we strengthen the bonds of a healthy community.
The Frank Bette Center for the Arts is a place... "...where art has expression, civic dialogue is stimulated, and a new sense of community is awakened." - Debra Owen, Executive Director
