TBA

Currently on Perspectives:

Risks of Using Voting Machines

Julie speaks sith Jim Soper on how easily electronic voting machines can defeat the purpose of democracy, turning the meaning of each vote, counted as cast, into a sham. Citing numerous studies and investigations of the manner of construction and use of such machines, Jim goes into detail about how they can be used to invalidate our votes, or worse, turn them against us.

Jim Soper is a member of the Wellstone Democratic Club and Co-Chair of the Voting Rights Task Force, on the web at VotingRightsTaskForce.org.

He has more than 20 Years as a Computer Programmer and Senior Consultant at Digital Equipment Corp.

Perspective's Host – Julie Rufo

Julie Rufo was the co-founder and moderator of the Alameda Public Affairs Forum before she and Joseph Woodard started PERSPECTIVES.

She knows the power of public media, having worked in production of industrial films and shows for some years in Los Angeles, and then becoming a business manager in the entertainment industry.

Born and bred in New York City, she is the daughter of a writer and editor, Charles Lam Markmann, who authored "The Noblest Cry," a history of the ACLU, among other works. She inherited his passion for truth and justice, a passion that carried her into battles against the Vietnam War, the Contras in Nicaragua and Honduras, our proxy wars in Guatemala and El Salvador, our bogus invasions of Grenada and Panama, and now the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Moving to Alameda to live near her two children, one a successful energy conservation consultant and and the other an animal rights activist, Julie has happily found a community of people who share her concerns and want to do something about problems that we all face. With a background in social activism that spans five decades, Julie now presents interviews on vital local, national, and international issues that affect our lives.
