The Laugh That Came from Alameda
Alameda filmmaker Saylor Billings premieres Phyllis of Fernside, a documentary on comedienne Phyllis Diller, who hit the big-time straight from the streets of Alameda.
Still Alive and Joking
Ms Diller, without a doubt is the Matriarch of Stand-Up Comedy. In this year of her 90th birthday, this locally produced documentary shines a spotlight on the comic pioneer's life in post-war Alameda, followed by an exclusive interview, and as a bonus, pops in excerpts from the last performance of the still very much alive legend.
About the Director:
Saylor Billings
Saylor Billings was raised in the Southeast, where she learned the finer points of storytelling, but spent her formative years working in New York City's downtown theatre and comedy scene.
She has produced, managed, written or directed hundreds of theatrical comedy shows, working with newcomers and comedy legends alike, at venues like PS NBC in New York and the Aspen U.S. Comedy Festival. In the coming months, Saylor will be
producing an experimental comedy show for Alameda TV called
Townies under the banner of Billibatt Productions.
